Alnara to announce Phase 3 study results of liprotamase for treating cystic fibrosis at the 23rd NACFC

Alnara Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a pharmaceutical company developing novel, non-systemic orally-delivered protein therapeutics for the treatment of metabolic diseases, announced today that results from a landmark, international Phase 3 study of the long-term safety and nutritional benefits of liprotamase for the treatment of pancreatic insufficiency in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) will be presented at the 23rd Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC) being held October 15-17, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals to receive $155 million in cash from two financial transactions

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated today announced that it will receive $155 million in cash from two financial transactions. In the first transaction, Vertex will receive approximately $120 million in cash for the issuance of notes repayable no later than October 31, 2012 in the total amount of $155 million.

DiscoveryBioMed, Inc. European Commission grants conditional marketing authorization for Gilead's Cayston

Gilead Sciences, Inc. announced today that the European Commission has granted conditional marketing authorization for Cayston® 75 mg powder and solvent for nebuliser solution (aztreonam lysine) for the suppressive therapy of chronic pulmonary infections due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) aged 18 years and older.

An important analysis conducted by Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute scientists suggests the importance of ensuring optimal dietary intakes of vitamin K to prevent age-related conditions such as bone fragility, arterial and kidney calcification, cardiovascular disease, and possibly cancer. NanoBio presents preclinical data of NB-201 for treating burn wounds at the 2009 ICAAC

NanoBio Corporation today announced compelling preclinical data for NB-201, a nanoemulsion-based topical lotion for the treatment of burn wounds. In preclinical studies, NB-201 dramatically reduced the severity of burn wound infections as well as inflammation following thermal injuries. The research was conducted at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor as a collaborative effort between the University and NanoBio.

Kamada, a bio-pharmaceutical company engaged in the development, manufacturing and marketing of specialty life-saving therapeutics, announced that data on its next-generation alpha-1 antitrypsin (Inhaled-AAT) in cystic fibrosis patients was presented today, at the Annual Congress of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) 2009, Vienna. As previously reported, the study showed that inhaled-AAT was safe and biologically effective.
