GOP agrees to move up final Senate vote on health care bill to early Christmas Eve

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced Tuesday afternoon that the Senate has scheduled a vote on the final passage of its health care overhaul bill for around 8 a.m. EST on Thursday, Christmas Eve, after Republican leaders agreed to a deal to speed up the procedure.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. today announced that PROXY Governance, Inc., a leading independent proxy advisory firm, recommended that shareholders of Taro Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. withhold their votes for the re-election of the existing board of directors of Taro and vote against the board's two nominees for external director and against both of the board's indemnification proposals in the upcoming Annual General Meeting of Taro's shareholders scheduled for December 31, 2009.

Santarus, Inc., a specialty biopharmaceutical company, today announced that it has received the $20 million milestone payment previously announced on December 1, 2009 relating to the approval of ZEGERID OTC™ (omeprazole 20 mg/sodium bicarbonate 1100 mg capsules) under its over-the-counter (OTC) licensing agreement with Schering-Plough HealthCare Products, Inc., the consumer healthcare division of Merck & Co., Inc. Schering-Plough and Merck merged on November 3, 2009.

Oxford Finance to provide Titan Pharmaceuticals a $3M term loan

Titan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a Loan and Security Agreement with Oxford Finance Corporation ("Oxford") for a $3 million term loan. The loan will bear interest at an approximate rate of 13% per annum and be payable over three years. Under the terms of the agreement, Titan will pay Oxford an initial facility fee of $60,000 and a final payment fee of $180,000.

Majority Leader Reid's amendment to the Senate health care bill absolutely fails to meet abortion and life protections that exist in current federal law and policy. It does not prevent federal funding of plans that include abortion coverage, it does not adequately protect health care providers who choose to exercise their rights of conscience, and it does not prevent government involvement in assisted suicide.

Several maladaptive eating behaviors, beyond anorexia, can affect women. Indeed, some 10 to 15 percent of women have maladaptive eating behaviours and attitudes according to new study from the Universit- de Montr-al and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders.
