Community hospitals select McKesson's Paragon HIS, Practice Partner EHR system for physicians

McKesson today announced that three more community hospitals have chosen the company's Practice Partner Patient Records electronic health record and practice management solution for their employed/affiliated physicians. The hospitals, which also selected the Paragon hospital information system to automate care processes in their inpatient settings, aim to enhance communication and care coordination among healthcare providers in their communities.

The American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American College of Physicians today released a policy monograph that supports the critical roles physician assistants and physicians play in improving access to high-quality primary care. The paper, "Internists and Physician Assistants: Team-based Primary Care," results from a months-long collaborative project.

Some use "cultural toolkits," and have guides to help providers relate to patients' cultural and religious preferences. "'From a business perspective, it makes a lot of sense,' said Bernardo Ramirez, assistant professor of health services administration at the University of Central Florida.

According to a new survey sponsored by Janssen, Division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc, 80 percent of patients with schizophrenia, a chronic, severe and disabling brain disorder, say their psychiatrists do well or very well in treating them with courtesy and respect. This positive relationship is particularly important in treating schizophrenia as patients and psychiatrists must work closely together to determine appropriate treatment plans that will help patients manage their symptoms and reduce their risk of relapse.
