Pathway Genomics collaborates with Singapore-based company, Parkway Laboratory Services

Pathway Genomics Corporation, a San Diego-based clinical laboratory that offers genetic testing services internationally, has partnered with Parkway Laboratory Services Ltd, an ancillary service of Parkway Pantai Limited, the largest private healthcare provider in Singapore, and one of the largest private healthcare providers in Asia.

Bayer, Onyx submit sNDA to FDA, marketing authorization application to EMA for Nexavar tablets

Bayer HealthCare and Onyx Pharmaceuticals today announced the submission of a supplemental New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and an application for marketing authorization to the European Medicines Agency for the oral multi-kinase inhibitor Nexavar (sorafenib) tablets for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic radioactive iodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer.

First clinical study for development of SGX203 to treat pediatric Crohn's disease

Soligenix, Inc. (Soligenix or the Company), a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing products to treat inflammatory diseases and biodefense countermeasures where there remains an unmet medical need, announced today that it has enrolled and treated all patients in the Phase 1 Study BDP-PCD-01; the first clinical study for development of SGX203 (oral beclomethasone 17,21-dipropionate or oral BDP) for the treatment of pediatric Crohn's disease.

Healthy man injured severely while weight lifting required surgery

A young, healthy man injured himself so severely while weight lifting that he required surgery and nearly a full week in the hospital to recover. The unusual case report of compartment syndrome to the shoulder will be reported online today in Annals of Emergency Medicine ("An Unusual Complication of Weightlifting: A Case Report").

Olfactory ensheathing cells treatment improves neurological function in SCI patients: Study

A team of researchers in Poland who treated three of six paraplegics with spinal cord injury using transplanted olfactory ensheathing cells found that the three treated patients showed neurological improvement and no adverse effects while the three control patients who did not receive transplants saw no improvement.

The knees are the body part that is injured the most by dinghy sailors. The injuries are primarily due to overstrain and most often occur during physical training. This was shown in a study at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Poor, less educated patients are less likely to receive opioid pain medications in emergency rooms

Patients in moderate to severe pain in emergency rooms across the U.S. are less likely to receive opioid pain medications if they are black, Hispanic, poor, or have less education, compared to more affluent patients, according to a University of Rochester Medical Center study reported in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
