Following the successful completion of a rigorous audit by Underwriters Laboratories (Northbrook, IL) this month, Product Safety Consulting, Inc. (Bensenville, IL) announced today that they have received formal accreditation under UL's Data Acceptance Program to better serve two vibrant and growing sectors of the American economy: lighting products and medical devices. PSC is now fully authorized to conduct compliance testing and submit results as part of the process to obtain UL Certification on products covered by the following standards:

“Manufacturers in both the lighting and medical device sectors are facing unique challenges”

  • UL 153 Luminaires
  • UL 1598 Portable Electric Luminaires
  • UL 8750 Light-Emitting Diode Equipment for Use in Lighting Products
  • UL 924 Emergency Lighting and Power Equipment
  • UL 60601 Medical Electrical Equipment
  • UL 61010 Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use

"Manufacturers in both the lighting and medical device sectors are facing unique challenges," said John Allen, President of Product Safety Consulting. "Increased competition and the rapid shift to new technologies in both industries have created enormous pressure for developers to be innovative in design, while at the same time finding ways to shorten the product development cycle and reduce R&D expense."

UL's Data Acceptance Program allows manufacturers to have the flexibility use their own laboratory facilities - or work with an independent testing laboratory - when they want to have their products evaluated for compliance to UL Standards. This can often result in shorter testing times, greatly reduced research and development costs, and a much more efficient product development process.
