Newham University Hospital NHS Trust deploys Power & Patch Management from 1E

1E, the global leader in IT efficiency software today announced that Newham University Hospital NHS Trust has deployed Power and Patch Management from 1E, following the deployment of its new software distribution platform, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

The tight integration of the Power and Patch Management solution with software distribution platform adds further management benefits and increases the overall efficiency of IT. Power & Patch Management from 1E is a combination of 1E's flagship advanced power management software NightWatchman and Wake on LAN tool WakeUp. It was considered the most fit-for-purpose solution for a 24/7/365 patient care environment, in which it is critical that power policies are not applied to certain PCs such as those used in the Pathology department, those hooked up to x-rays and those located in A&E. As such, the power policies defined by NightWatchman were not applied to a small number of PCs in the Trust; approximately 4% of the total estate.

"One month in and we were already saving approximately £1,250 per month across just the PCs onto which the agreed power policy was applied. In just one year, we stand to save over £18,500 but also reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 143 metric tonnes a year," says Shaun Jeffery, ICT Operations Manager, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust.

The shift in awareness and behaviour amongst our staff to turn off PCs, lights and other office equipment when not in use, were some of the keystone reasons behind our being named 'Greenest Hospital' at the Healthcare, Excellence and Leadership (HEAL) 2010 awards," concludes Jeffery.
