The Hill: Administration Launches Health IT Investment Initiative
The Obama administration on Wednesday launched a new initiative aimed at spurring health information technology innovations and awarded the first $5 million to two projects. The so-called Investing in Innovations (i2) Initiative was made possible by the America Competes Reauthorization Act of 2010, which was signed into law Jan. 4. It uses prizes and challenges to spur research and development and improve U.S. competitiveness (Pecquet, 6/8).
CQ HealthBeat: New Program To Spur Health IT Development
Determined to spur innovations in health IT, officials at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) unveiled a new program on Wednesday focused on using prizes and competition as a way to accelerate such development. Called Investing in Innovations (i2) Initiative, the program is being created under a law designed to improve U.S. competitiveness. It was signed by President Obama at the beginning of the year (6/8).
