Adapted version of Bailli-re's Nurses' Dictionary for Malaysian students

Elsevier, a leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services announced today that nursing students in Malaysia can look forward to better understanding medical terms with the adaptation of the popular Bailli-re's Nurses' Dictionary.

The Malaysian edition features dual language definitions where the first section of the dictionary provides Bahasa Malaysia definitions and the second section provides definitions in English. This enables easier referencing for nursing students who are more comfortable using the national language while retaining the English version for students who prefer learning in English.

Another key feature in this adaptation is the inclusion of a Malaysian context in definitions and appendices. Some of the highlights are:

• Appendix I on Nutrition that features the revised Malaysian Dietary Guidelines (2010), which include the Malaysian Food Pyramid;
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in Appendix II, featuring the updated guidelines from the American Heart Association that are adopted and used in Malaysia;
• Appendix III on Medicines and Their Control, in which the Malaysian Poisons Act 1952, Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Sales of Drugs Act 1952 and the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984 are addressed;
• Immunization and Vaccinations in Appendix VIII, featuring the Childhood Immunization Programme in Malaysia;
• Appendix IX on Infection Control, which includes the Policies and Procedures on Infection Control released by the Hospital Infection and Antibiotic Committee (HIACC) of the Ministry of Health in Malaysia.
