Kansas doctors to request rollback of new regulations; anti-abortion group backs Ohio amendment

Two physicians who sued over new state regulations targeting abortion providers were set to ask Kansas health officials Wednesday to scrap the requirements, which they argue are "medically unnecessary" and designed to put operations like theirs out of business. Herbert Hodes and his daughter, Traci Nauser, a fellow suburban Kansas City doctor, submitted a statement ahead of a public hearing by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. They're asking the agency to scrap regulations that tell providers what drugs and equipment they must stock and set minimum temperature and sizes for procedure and recovery rooms (Hanna, 9/7).

The anti-abortion group Ohio Right to Life is throwing its support behind a ballot issue that seeks to keep the government from requiring people to buy health insurance. The organization said Tuesday it was endorsing what's called the Health Care Freedom Amendment. The proposed amendment to the state's constitution would prohibit any law from forcing Ohioans to participate in a health care system (9/6).
