Loyola celebrates first baby of 2012

Ja'Nyah Crawford-Scotland was born at 11:01 a.m. on New Year's Day, the first baby to be born at Loyola University Medical Center in 2012. The healthy baby girl weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

"I wasn't due until January 6th, but I guess she was ready to come," said Kimberly Crawford, mom. "She was a good new year's surprise."

Loyola helped the family celebrate with flowers, a gift card, a onesie to declare the baby's status as the first Loyola baby of 2012 and a poster. The family even received a special meal delivered to their room personally by Loyola's head chef.

Ja'Nyah has a one-year-old brother, Jayden.

Delivery nurses were Katie Naliwajko, Laura Davey and Therese Sytsma. The attending physician was Dr. Nwamaka Obi and resident physicians were Drs. Megan DeJong and Kristin Jacobs.
