Deloitte today is announcing the upcoming release of PopulationMiner, a real-world, data-analytics solution for gleaning insights and relationships among drugs and diseases across broad patient populations over time and spanning multiple therapeutic and clinical areas.
Scheduled to be available in November, PopulationMiner works to provide life-sciences organizations more access to the front lines of patient care, a window that can help them develop more personalized medicines based upon clinical data and to do so more quickly using less capital.

"PopulationMiner enables a better understanding of health and disease by supporting population stratification and advanced analytics based on disease type, stage and comorbid combinations. With a few clicks, this platform can provide an unprecedented level of nuanced insights from millions of patients, leveraging informatics and clinical expertise from Deloitte and Intermountain Healthcare."
PopulationMiner draws upon Intermountain's vast repository of clinical, financial and operational data stored in a warehouse that supports patient-outcome analysis. The solution may allow for the identification of biomarkers using laboratory test results and rapid hypothesis generation and validation across a range of business functions including drug development, drug safety, pharmacoepidemiology and health economics and outcomes research.
PopulationMiner can also produce hypotheses across complex, comorbid patient populations and a pathway for conducting follow on research with the same populations. Users can specify cohorts based on granular criteria and then export these definitions to OutcomesMiner, where the criteria and methods can be further customized in generating reports.
Peter Haug, director of the Homer Warner Center for Informatics Research at Intermountain Healthcare, said, "This application is designed to provide insights into a broad range of medical conditions and clinical care. These insights can be leveraged to develop novel research hypotheses and to suggest effective approaches to answering these research questions. It should provide a tool for seeking answers to difficult health-care questions in large collections of clinical data."
Such capabilities are critical to the success of accountable care organizations (ACOs), said Scott Kolesar, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP and leader of Deloitte's Value-based Care practice. "PopulationMiner aims to provide organizations with an integrated comparative analytics platform so that they can discover opportunities to dramatically enhance the quality of care delivery while reducing costs," said Kolesar.
