Registration is now open for an interactive one day workshop in Brisbane, designed by GPs for GPs, that will cover five hot topics — including statin prescribing and whether the hype is justified on newer oral anticoagulants.

NPS MedicineWise has collaborated with Bond University, the University of Sydney and Therapeutic Guidelines Limited to design the interactive one day workshop which will take place on Saturday 24 May immediately following the biennial National Medicines Symposium.

Professor Jenny Doust, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University and Dr Clare Maher, Inala Primary Care and Healthy Women will lead discussions on recent evidence and guidelines on five ‘hot’ topics and help GPs translate this information into clinical practice.

Other contemporary topics to be discussed at the Evidence Update Masterclass for GPs include:

  • Diabetes update
  • Influenza treatment and prevention
  • Screening for breast and prostate cancer

NPS MedicineWise clinical adviser and GP Dr Andrew Boyden says there is evidence from overseas for the effectiveness of workshops such as this.

“Attending an evidence update masterclass is a time efficient way for GPs to get up to speed on the evidence that impacts our practice,” he says.

“The information presented will be free from influence by pharmaceutical companies or organisations that may have a conflict of interest, which we know is a point of difference that is greatly valued by GPs.”

Completing the Evidence Update GP Masterclass also attracts 40 Category 1 QI&CPD points.
