CAMFT supports Supreme Court’s verdict on same-sex marriage

The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) is in full support of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that guarantees same-sex couples the right to marry. CAMFT firmly believes that all couples and all families, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, should have the civil right to marry, with all the associated privileges and responsibilities. CAMFT values the relationships and families of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

"We believe the U.S. Supreme Court changed the course of history with wide cultural impact by creating a pathway for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 states," said CAMFT President Laura Strom. "We congratulate the persistence and conviction of so many who have fought decades of injustice. While CAMFT celebrates this victory for marriage and family equality, we recognize there are further civil rights protections needed for the LGBT community, and condemn the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation of minors, an act which is prohibited under California law."
