Multi-pass transmembrane virus-like particle (VLP) proteins

Virus-like particles (VLPs) are nanoscale particles, approximately 100–300 nm in diameter, formed by self-assembly of viral capsid proteins, which lack viral genetic material, cannot replicate independently, and are safer during production.

VLPs can display membrane proteins in their full natural conformation on the surface of virus-like particles, resulting in full-length transmembrane proteins suitable for immunization and antibody screening. The formation of VLP is depicted in Figure 1.

Monoclonal and bispecific antibodies targeting GPRC5D, Claudins (Claudin 6 and Claudin 18), SSTR2, and CXCR4 have shown promising preclinical and clinical results in CAR-T cell therapy. Full-length versions of these multi-pass transmembrane proteins are still challenging to produce.

To enable targeted drug research, Sino Biological has created a VLP protein platform based on the HEK293 expression system for producing full-length multi-pass transmembrane proteins (e.g. GPRC5D).
