Efficacy and safety data on linagliptin and investigational compound empagliflozin* in various diabetes subpopulations presented by Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company

Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company today announced they will feature five oral and 12 poster presentations for linagliptin and the investigational compound empagliflozin* at the 49th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) which will take place in Barcelona, from 23 – 27 September. The presentations will add to the already existing body of data on safety and efficacy of these two compounds.

A new analysis concludes that large numbers of patients in advanced stages of kidney disease are inappropriately being prescribed statins to lower their cholesterol - drugs that offer them no benefit and may increase other health risks such as diabetes, dementia or muscle pain.

A new, international study from the Chronic Kidney Disease Prognosis Consortium found that use of blood levels of cystatin C to estimate kidney function—alone or in combination with creatinine—strengthens the association between kidney function and risks of death and end-stage renal disease.

University of Limerick researchers have been awarded over €1.2 million funding by Ireland’s Health Research Board.
