Deborah Heart and Lung Center named Top Work Places 2010 and Best Hospital in New Jersey

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

Not once, but three times this week, Deborah Heart and Lung Center has been recognized as one of the best places to work and receive care. In three separate competitive reviews, Deborah, a specialty heart, lung, and vascular hospital in Browns Mills, has been recognized as a top workplace and top hospital.

“It is a distinctive honor to be recognized not once, but three times by three completely different organizations”

Deborah has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News “Top Work Places 2010” list, and also named the “Best Hospital in New Jersey” by Greater Philadelphia Media in their Job Trends Best Places to Work 2010 contest. These awards reflect the high level of commitment shown to staff and patients at Deborah.

“It is a distinctive honor to be recognized not once, but three times by three completely different organizations,” said Deborah President & CEO John R. Ernst. “The people at Deborah are what make us so special and what generate patient satisfaction scores that consistently rank among the best in the nation. These independent findings reflect the fact that our employees love working here, feel they are treated with kindness, compassion, and respect, and feel good about the care our patients receive. To be singled out as the Best Hospital in New Jersey certainly speaks volumes for our facility and the care we deliver every day.”

The hospital was also rated as one of the top hospitals in New Jersey as published by Inside Jersey Magazine. The magazine joined with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., one of the nation’s most respected health care research and information companies, to poll doctors and patients on New Jersey’s top medical facilities.

New Jersey patients overwhelmingly ranked Deborah as the number one hospital in the state (among those with fewer than 350 beds). Deborah’s ranking, with an 80 percent top hospital vote by patients – as compiled by Castle Connolly Medical with post-discharge data from the independent Improving Healthcare for the Common Good -- was the highest statewide in both hospital category sizes. In addition, they also ranked Deborah as the number one hospital for doctor communication and nurse communication, with both categories receiving the highest percentage points of patient satisfaction found at any hospital in New Jersey.

Besides the superb ratings by patients, New Jersey’s licensed physicians also rated Deborah among the top in the state. The hospital tied for third place as the best hospital overall statewide (in its size grouping), and was ranked by doctors as the number one facility in New Jersey for coronary bypass surgery and treating congestive heart failure.

Deborah Vice President, Human Resources Jim Carlino agreed. “We all work very hard every day to maintain our focus on outstanding clinical care, patient satisfaction and staff engagement. These awards are truly gratifying to everyone at Deborah. They provide third-party confirmation that we are a great place for staff to do what they do best - - contribute toward an outstanding experience for every patient that visits Deborah. This is truly an honor to all of our staff, and reflects our appreciation for their efforts to help our hospital stand out as not only a great place to receive care, but a great place to work.”
