Pressure Right effectively reduces postdischarge nausea and vomiting

In its December 2012 issue, the Outpatient Surgery Magazine's product news section introduces Pressure Right®, the longer-acting perioperative, (Rx) antiemetic prophylaxis medical device to its readers. This device is a new breakthrough for reducing the high incidence of postdischarge nausea and vomiting (PDNV) of more than 35% at the end of the second postoperative day following discharge from ambulatory surgery for those patients receiving general anesthesia.

Pressure Right® has a proven track record for mitigating the immediate and delayed effects of nausea and vomiting following both inpatient and outpatient surgeries. The implementation of Pressure Right® prior to the induction of general anesthesia can be used as part of a satisfactory multi-modal antiemetic strategy for reducing the existing high incidence of PDNV.

As a single-use, disposable medical device, Pressure Right® has been clinically tested for prophylactic effectiveness for at least 72 hours from the emergence of anesthesia. It has been used as part of multi-modal antiemetic strategy to reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after laparoscopic surgery. Another benefit with the use of Pressure Right is that it can also help alleviate motion-induced nausea that can occur during the car ride home after outpatient surgery.

The Pressure Right® antiemetic device provides a specialized acupressure delivery system to activate the (P6) acupuncture site for stimulating the nerve system, similar to acupuncture, but without the needles. According to leading acupuncture experts, the P6 stimulation signals the brain to release certain neurotransmitters, which then block other chemicals that cause the induction of nausea and vomiting in the central nervous system.
