National Foundation for Infectious Diseases to host 16th Annual Conference on Vaccine Research

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases will host the 16^th Annual Conference on Vaccine Research, April 22-24, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD. This three-day conference presents high-quality, current reports of scientific progress and best practices in both invited presentations and submitted oral abstracts and posters.  The conference brings together the diverse disciplines involved in the research and development of vaccines and associated technologies for disease control through immunization, with an international audience of scientists and researchers, healthcare professionals and trainees, veterinarians, vaccine manufacturers, and public health officials.

The conference begins on Monday, April 22 with the Mary Lou Clements-Mann Memorial Lecture in Vaccine Sciences keynote presentation, Eradication of Disease through Vaccination: The 35^th Anniversary of the Last Case of Smallpox, by D.A. Henderson , MD, MPH, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Center for Biosecurity of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  On Tuesday, April 23, Jon S. Abramson , MD, Wake Forest University School of Medicine will deliver a keynote presentation, Decade of Vaccines. The 2013 Robert Austrian Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Richard Malley , MD, Children's Hospital Boston and the Charles Merieux Award will be presented to Robert G. Webster , PhD, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at a luncheon on Tuesday, April 23.

Additional symposia will focus on Challenges for Future Disease Eradication by Vaccination, Malaria Vaccines, Prevention of Infant Infections and Maternal Immunization, New and Emerging Vaccines for Respiratory Infections, Prospects for New Tuberculosis Vaccines, and Vaccine Discovery and New Technologies.
