Future of diagnostics to be unveiled by ITL at Medica 2016

Leading medical device design and manufacturing company ITL is unveiling something exciting at MEDICA tradeshow in Düsseldorf, Germany this November.

The project, which has been dubbed ‘the concept car of diagnostics’, encompasses a world of medical possibilities and applications in one device.

ITL’s device employs the newest technologies in the field – from near-field communication (NFC) and wireless charging to an associated tablet app and Bluetooth data transmission, to show visitors what is possible and where the industry is going next.

Mechanical Engineer Sukie Whitehall, a recent graduate of the University of Birmingham and one of the key members of the project team said,

“The idea behind it is that the device can invoke some creativity in our clients and people who might want to work with us in the future. This is a demonstrator of where the market is going – and we believe that when visitors interact with it at the show they can’t help but apply their own ideas and think about future applications.”

She added: “The project also shows that we have a team of very capable industrial designers and engineers at ITL who can make groundbreaking ideas a reality. This project is not a product in its own right, but instead an illustration of creative ideas, exploration of possibilities and physical embodiment of future technologies in MedTech and IVD’s.”

ITL is an experienced full-service subcontract company, celebrating 40 years in the medical and diagnostic sector next year. Their portfolio includes in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), point-of-care devices, cancer staging and treatment, surgical robots and next generation DNA sequencing.

Steve Hope, the company’s New Product Development Manager, will be at ITL’s stand at MEDICA from 14-17th November.

He said: “We look forward to seeing people’s reactions to our project, and in particular how they interact with it. The motivation behind this venture was start a conversation about innovation and get people to think about it differently – we want them to question how they can use this technology and to do something new or to future-proof existing products.”

ITL will be on Stand H20, in Hall 3 at MEDICA. As well as demonstrating the latest innovation, the team will be giving advice, staging competitions and giving visitors a chance to win free Kentish beer.
