EU Biophotonic workshop set to examine latest developments in clinical diagnostics

Billed as a performance assessment and standardization activity, the gathering will act as a biophotonic focus group to improve healthcare, by sharing good practice about making medical devices more reliable and eventually reducing health costs.

The event has been set up as a forum for researchers, clinicians, end-users, academics, hospitals or anyone involved in the health and medical industry to share best practice, discuss methodologies, and raise awareness of issues in developing medical devices.

Biophotonics has crucial advantages in healthcare for diagnostics and treatment: it has outstanding possibilities related to chemical specificity and functional information; it is generally non-invasive, potentially non-contact and allows deep sensitivity within the tissue, quantitative operator independence and production of scalable devices.

One of the event organizers, Anna Pelagotti, said:

These factors make Biophotonics unique from other modalities, but despite many good ideas in the laboratory, few of these reach the market.”

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, we are pleased to announce the second installment of the DG Connect workshop on 12th September 2019.”

The event has been set up to improve the quality and effectiveness of Biophotonics devices and EU competitiveness and will feature topics like facilitating the development of industry standards, improve the quality of clinical prototypes, and facilitating Open Data.

“Renowned speakers from across the world will present their view in their respective medical fields and participants will gather in smaller groups to discuss specific subjects in more detail and present their ideas on ways forward,” Pelagotti said.
