2010 AANS Annual Meeting to be held at Pennsylvania Convention Center

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) will hold its 78th Annual Meeting at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, May 1-5, 2010. The AANS is expected to host more than 6,000 attendees, with an estimated 3,000 medical professionals including neurosurgeons, neurosurgical residents, neuroscience nurses, clinical specialists, physician assistants and allied health professionals.

For medical attendees, the 2010 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting content will be delivered and accessible via the iPod touch®. This device will be preloaded with a custom application that integrates the entire annual meeting. Medical attendees will be able to utilize the audience response system to interact simultaneously with speakers during select breakfast seminars and scientific sessions, as well as send messages to colleagues attending the meeting. For non-medical attendees, content will be accessible via computers throughout the convention center.

The AANS Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of neurosurgeons in the nation. The meeting focuses on the latest research and technological advances in the field. During the weekend, 30 practical clinics and four International Masters practical clinics will offer state-of-the art continuing medical education to medical attendees only. The Scientific Program, which opens officially on Monday, May 3, includes 20 general scientific sessions, three plenary sessions, an International Symposium, 64 breakfast seminars, 152 oral abstract presentations, nearly 400 electronic poster presentations, and 800 exhibit booths representing more than 200 companies.

The keynote speaker is Cushing Orator Newt Gingrich, PhD, on Tuesday, May 3, 12:01 pm. As Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 1999, he disrupted the status quo by moving power out of Washington and back to the American people. Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in 16 years.
