Board Member Jim Hagedorn's Donation Will Support Expansion Efforts

Nurse-Family Partnership®, a leading non-profit organization addressing the needs of low income, first-time parents and their children, has received a $2 million gift from Jim Hagedorn, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company in Marysville, Ohio, and a member of the Nurse-Family Partnership Board of Directors. Hagedorn's donation will aid Nurse-Family Partnership's ongoing efforts to create and expand community and state support of the NFP evidence-based public health program around the United States.

"Jim Hagedorn's generosity and support of NFP's work has made a difference in the lives of vulnerable families across the country," said Thomas R. Jenkins, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, Nurse-Family Partnership. "During Jim's service on our board of directors, he has been personally supportive of our management and engaged in our mission. He is a smart, successful business leader who knows how to get results, and we are fortunate to have Jim's counsel as we propel this nurse-led home visitation program forward."

Hagedorn was named Chairman of the Board at Scotts Miracle-Gro Company in Jan. 2003, and Chief Executive Officer in May 2001. He also served as President from May 2001 to Dec. 2005, and again from Nov. 2006 to Oct. 2008. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program and holds a degree in aeronautical science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, where he is a Trustee. In addition to serving on the Nurse-Family Partnership Board of Directors, Hagedorn is Co-Chairman of the National Fund for the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C.; Associate Trustee of North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y.; Chairman of the Board for the Farms for City Kids Foundation, Inc. in Reading, Vt.; Board Member for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation; Trustee at The Intrepid Foundation; and a member of the Council on Competitiveness Executive Committee.

"During my many years of involvement with Nurse-Family Partnership, I have seen and heard firsthand how vital this program is to thousands of parents and their children," said Hagedorn. "I am proud to be able to support a nurse-led public health initiative with such an impressive track record of proven results. I hope this gift will help get many more nurses and families involved with NFP in years to come."

Today, Nurse-Family Partnership serves more than 21,000 families in 31 U.S. states in a program of ongoing nurse home visitation. It is estimated that every year there are approximately 600,000 eligible first-time mothers in the U.S. that would benefit from the program.
