Summit will feature prominent speakers from academia, the arts, industry, and global media

Leaders in health care, technology, design, the military and the arts will gather at The Mount Sinai Medical Center for the second-annual SINAInnovations conference on November 18 and 19, 2013. This year's program, titled "SINAInnovations: Leading A New Era Of Discovery" will highlight the power of "Team Science", which is a key ingredient to accelerating progress and spurring creativity to advance a culture of innovation and discovery.

In November 2012, Mount Sinai held the first SINAInnovations as part of its ambitious and unprecedented effort to redefine how innovation is taught, incentivized, and facilitated within an academic medical center. The result is a new model that is attracting the brightest students, fostering the most innovative science and commercializing its discoveries to maximize their benefit to patients.

In addition to keynote lectures by leaders in design, engineering, the military and sports, panel sessions for 2013 SINAInnovations will focus on the Psychology of Great Groups, Diversity in the Context of Team Science, and Team Science in Academic Medical Centers and Pharma. Panelists will present examples of success stories, such as those from the Human Genome Project, SAGE Bionetworks, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and participants will share their wisdom about how to enhance and reward teamwork in academic medical centers as well as in biotech, the medical device industry, and pharma.

"The rapid pace of discovery and development of new technologies necessitate teamwork among scientists in order to be successful," said Scott L. Friedman, MD, Dean for Therapeutic Discovery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "This year's SINAInnovations conference will provide a playbook on team science so that participants will come away with a thorough understanding and enthusiasm about effectively implementing it to accelerate innovation and shared success through the synergies that arise from working in teams."
