On Tuesday, July 23, Hyundai Motor America and its U.S. dealer council, through their nonprofit organization Hyundai Hope On Wheels®, will celebrate the grand opening of the Hyundai Cancer Institute. Hyundai Motor America will present CHOC Children's with the third $2.0 million installment of a $10 million research grant committed in 2011. This grant is the largest corporate gift in CHOC Children's history. Funds are being used for pediatric cancer research at the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children's, using the latest advances in genomic medicine to provide more effective, individualized treatment for children afflicted with this disease. Hyundai will also present CHOC Children's with two new 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport vehicles.
To celebrate the Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children's, Hope On Wheels will host a special performance focused on the idea that "Every Handprint Tells A Story." Hope On Wheels collects the handprints of children affected by cancer through its signature Handprint Ceremony because they each represent an individual child's story of hope and courage. Their collective narrative provides a powerful message that Hope On Wheels shares nationwide to raise awareness for this cause.
Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO John Krafcik, CHOC Children's president and CEO Kim Cripe and The Hyundai Cancer Institute at CHOC Children's medical director Dr. Leonard Sender will provide remarks and be available for interviews.
