President of Ukrainian Osteoporosis Association wins CNS Medal for contribution to cause of osteoporosis prevention

Today, Dr Vladyslav Povoroznyuk, President of the Ukrainian Osteoporosis Association, was awarded the first Committee of National Societies (CNS) Medal. The CNS Medal recognizes an individual CNS representative who has made an important contribution to the cause of osteoporosis prevention through active participation in CNS activities and by expanding IOF's messages and outreach in his/her country.

The presentation ceremony was held during the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases, currently being held in Seville, Spain.

Comprising more than 200 patient and medical societies worldwide, the CNS is IOF's core membership committee. As a group it forms the world's largest single network of national organizations dedicated to the prevention of osteoporosis and musculoskeletal disorders.

Their grassroots efforts in implementing IOF information campaigns locally have helped spread key prevention messages around the world. We are delighted to present this new Award in recognition of one extraordinary CNS member within the IOF family of societies."

Dr Povoroznyuk is Head of the Department of Clinical Physiology and Pathology of the Locomotor Apparatus, Institute of Gerontology, Kiev, Ukraine. He has represented the Ukrainian Society at IOF meetings and events for more than a decade and has been involved in the Ukrainian versions of key resources, such as the IOF One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test and FRAX questionnaire. As well, he has carried out annual World Osteoporosis Day campaigns in the Ukraine and was a contributor to the 2010 IOF Eastern European and Central Asian Regional Audit.

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, Chair of the CNS and IOF Board member, stated, "As the Head of the Ukrainian Association on Osteoporosis Dr Povorznyuk works with great dedication to raise public awareness and improve patient care in the Ukraine. He has also been one the most active CNS representatives within the IOF family of member societies and I therefore am very honoured to be able to present this Award to such a deserving individual."
