Accutronics to exhibit batteries for wearable medical devices at Compamed trade show

Professional battery manufacturer Accutronics will be exhibiting a range of products from Ultralife Corporation at this year’s Compamed trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 13-16. This will include Ultralife’s Thin Cell battery range for wearable medical devices and smart batteries for medical carts. Accutronics will be exhibiting from stand G01, in hall 8b.

Compamed is the world’s largest medical technology trade show and brings together professionals and leading manufacturers in the industry from across the globe. Co-hosted with Medica, the event will host more than 750 exhibitors and is expected to attract visitors from over 40 countries.

Accutronics’ stand will display Ultralife’s range of Thin Cell batteries, which address a number of key industry issues, such as the growing number of internet-connected and wearable medical devices. Wearable devices have become increasingly popular among consumers, particularly within the burgeoning home healthcare market, with sales reaching 78.1 million in 2015 — a 127 per cent increase from the previous year.

“The medical and healthcare sectors are often reported to be the largest for wearable technology,” explained Michele Windsor, global marketing manager at Accutronics and Ultralife. “This is evidenced by the increased interest from companies such as Samsung. As compact connected devices continue to drive the market, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are under pressure to create smaller devices, without compromising run time.

“This isn’t possible with even the best lithium coin-cells that are currently available on the market. Offering an energy density of 300Wh/I and 260Wh/kg, our thin cell battery range offers an energy density up to 500Wh/I and 400Wh/kg in comparison. This means manufacturers are able to create smaller devices and deliver longer run times.”

Also on display will be a range of custom and pre-engineered smart batteries from both Accutronics and Ultralife, including Ultralife’s URB12400-U1-SMB compact Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. Designed to replace traditional sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries in medical carts, the battery’s smart technology allows the battery to monitor its own remaining capacity. This means it notifies the host when to shut the device down, improving the traditional fixed voltage cut-off that most batteries use.
