Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce that the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) has affiliated with the International Journal of Surgery (IJS), an online-only peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the advancement of the science and practice of surgery.

IJS is published online six times per year (increasing to eight in 2010) and is indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE. It features original research articles, review papers, editorials and letters, relating to all areas of surgery and its subspecialties. The journal was launched in 2003 by Dr Riaz Agha, the Managing and Executive Editor, and has an eminent international editorial board, under the Editor-in-Chief Professor R David Rosin (Bridgetown, Barbados), formerly Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Henry Spilberg, Publisher for Elsevier's Surgery journals in the UK, said: "We are very excited by the new affiliation between ASiT and the IJS. The partnership underlines the relevance of the journal for trainee surgeons in the UK as well as those internationally and offers great opportunities for collaboration with the Association."

Dr Riaz Agha, Managing and Executive Editor, IJS, commented: "The editorial team is excited about this affiliation with ASiT and the positive synergies that will be created for trainees as a result. This is a big step towards encouraging all surgical trainees to consider the IJS as the number one destination for their best research."

Mr Ed Fitzgerald, President of ASiT, added, "This relationship offers a new opportunity for surgical trainees to keep up-to-date with current surgical research. It also recognises the growing importance of the annual ASiT Conference by publishing the many excellent research abstracts presented at this meeting by our members. We look forward to working with the IJS over the coming years."

ASiT Members will be offered access to the online journal at a heavily discounted rate as a benefit of membership. ASiT members will access the IJS through a personalised site with extra content and features. Members will be encouraged to submit their work to the peer-reviewed journal and benefit from the wide range of Elsevier author services.
