Blood carotenoids offer the clearest signal of fruit and vegetable eating habits

The review finds that several candidate biomarkers may help estimate fruit and vegetable intake more objectively than self-reported dietary tools, but most remain limited by specificity, sampling burden, supplement use, or incomplete validation. Blood and skin carotenoids appear strongest for habitual intake, while vitamin C, folate, urinary flavonoids, hippuric acid, and potassium may be more useful for short-term intake or intervention adherence.

Pregnancy magnifies heart risk, but age alone does not explain why

A large U.S. cohort-crossover study found that pregnancy and the postpartum period were linked to about a seven-fold higher relative risk of major adverse cardiovascular events compared with patients’ nonpregnant baseline risk. This relative risk increase did not vary by maternal age, suggesting pregnancy broadly amplifies existing cardiovascular risk rather than making older age itself the driver of pregnancy-specific cardiovascular complications.

A century of safety: Aluminium vaccine adjuvants do not raise serious long-term health risks

A BMJ systematic review of 59 human studies found no evidence supporting causal links between aluminum-adjuvanted vaccines and serious or long-term outcomes such as autism spectrum disorder, asthma, autoimmune conditions, or other chronic illnesses. The most consistent adverse events were uncommon, local, self-limited persistent nodules or granulomas, likely reflecting delayed-type hypersensitivity.
